For Adoption

Break Heart Ranch
doesn't sell horses. We rescue animals in need - rescue,
rehabilitate and provide retirement for special needs animals. Our
adoption fees help provide medical care, feed and all those things
horses require for their proper care. Proceeds from these adoptions make
it possible to rescue additional equines.
|
Break Heart has
horses that may not be listed on the adoption page. This is due to being
in quarantine, working with behavior issues, younger horses in training,
or just not having the time to have them listed on our site. We may
have the wonderful companion you are looking for. Please contact us
for updates, or let us know what kind of companion you are seeking.
It might already be here, but not listed on this site.
Any adoptions going out of state will
require a Coggins before they can be picked up. This must be prepaid
before the animal is picked up, so the vet will have time for the test and
the test results. A copy of the Cogging and health papers must be in your
possession while transporting a horse across state lines.

Rio
Rio came to us with a severe foot injury. He
had come out on the bad end of stepping on sheet metal.
Fortunately, there was no bone, or ligament damage. Several
months of removing the proud flesh were rewarded with a sound, and
healthy boy. Rio has been trained to work with cattle. Up until
his injury, he was quite active. Rio is a big boy, out of top
bloodlines. He is very intelligent, and isn't recommended for a
novice rider. Due to his specific training, and disposition, Rio
needs a job. If you are interested in Rio, please come on out and
meet him.

Sparky, a.k.a.
Sparkplug
Sparky is one of the "Molasses Head Gang", and
after a horrendous start in a KB lot, a hernia, and abdominal surgery,
he is growing up to be a big boy. With all that he has been
through, Sparky is a sweet and loving gelding. He will be going
to pasture for several months, growing and stretching his muscles.
He will start saddle training next year when he turns three.
What a handsome guy!!

Shadow, Ravishing Ruby & Mystic
A good Samaritan saved Shadow, Ruby, and the OTT
thoroughbred, Mystic from starvation. He did everything in his power
to care for these three starved horses, but the depressed economy was
against him. He was bound and determined these horses have a chance,
even against the advice to take them to auction. He couldn't betray
them, so he contacted us, here at Break Heart Ranch. We were happy to
help him, that's what we do. His concern for their care, especially
that Shadow and Ruby stay together, was heart warming.

Shadow is approximately five years old. She is a quiet
mare. She has adopted the little filly "Ruby, and is very protective
towards her. I planned on putting Ruby in with horses her own age,
however, to see the loving interaction between her and Shadow, I
realized now isn't the time. They have been through hell, and this
beautiful Blue Roan mare, and her "adopted" sorrel filly, have developed
an amazing relationship. Shadow lives up to her name, and is constantly,
watching over little Ruby. Shadow has begun to trust humans again,
thanks to the man who saved her. Shadow is not saddle trained, as far as
we know. This will be evaluated. Right now, Shadow and Ruby are a pair. If anyone is interested, in either horse, it would be necessary to adopt
both, at this time. As Ruby becomes more confident, she will eventually
join in with other horses. Ruby is fiercely attached to Shadow, and we
acknowledge and respect this. To watch Shadow, gently, stroke Ruby's
neck, and to see Ruby look to Shadow for direction, and protection is
pure love. We could learn so much, if we would only see, they're more
than happy to show us.

Shadow was a rescue by a good Samaritan. She came in with her herd
mates, Ruby, and Mystic. Shadow has come along way, in the few months
she has been here.
She is really coming out of her shell. Shadow has been started
under saddle, and is showing us just how amazing she is. Eager to
please, she is willing to learn it all.

Ruby is approximately 18 months old. A little sorrel
filly, more than likely the product of a "backyard" breeder. Ruby has no
reason to love or trust humans, most of her young life was trying to
survive. Lack of food, at her crucial age, could cause her to be smaller
than she would have been with good pre-natal and foal care. We named her
"Ravishing Ruby". Ruby is afraid of humans, and does her best to bluff,
and make herself appear unapproachable. However, her good
Samaritan
showed her humans can do good, and she's learned that she will not be
forced, until she is ready. When she puts her ears back, I tell her she
is a silly filly, and scratch her in her favorite spot. Her "adopted"
mom, Shadow, is always watching over her. Ruby caught on quickly that
there is, always, something tasty to be offered, and shyly comes to the
fence to investigate.
Ruby
is doing well on her own with a new friend, Priscilla. Once so
buddy bound with Shadow, she was very insecure, now she has bloomed.
Both fillies are about the same age. Ruby's confidence is growing
daily, and she will be ready to start under saddle next year. In the
mean time she will spending time on pasture to grow and mature.
She is going to be a beauty!
Mystic is a off the track thoroughbred, who we were
told was a Hunter/Jumper. She was skin and bones, when she was rescued.
Her good Samaritan had worked hard to put weight on her. Mystic is a big
girl, approximately 20 years old, but don't let that fool you. She is
full of life. Once her weight is back to where it needs to be, she will
be stunning. A beautiful white blaze and white socks against her golden
sorrel is beautiful. Regardless of what she has been through, this horse
has fire in her eyes. At this time, we are unable to read her tattoo.
Some of the numbers are smeared, but we will continue to try to piece
her past together. She would make a wonderful trail horse for someone
wanting a big, beautiful girl. Other than being food aggressive, due to
her starvation, she seems sound. Mystic is looking for her "forever"
home with someone, who is an experienced rider, and is not intimidated
by her size. I get the feeling from Mystic, that she would love to "run
with the wind", and she has many good years left to share.
All three horses will soon be ready for adoption to
loving homes.

PREACHER
MAN
This sweet stallion has a weak spot-children.
Preacher loves children and will do anything for their attention.
He has put on more weight, but will never be a fat boy. We
are looking for a special home for Preacher, someone who understands
stallions and appreciates Preacher for his willingness, great
disposition, mild manners, and his eagerness to please, even if a
little girl has a choke hold on him, while smothering him with
kisses.
Preacher comes from a well bred family, Raffles
among them. Preacher is a little over 14 hands and can be
handled by adults and children. Yes, he is a stallion, and he
knows it, however, he understands that he can look, but not touch.
He gets along well with other horses and is not pushy
Preacher is a dream under saddle. This 15
year old stallion is a pleasure to be around.
His manners and manner is impeccable.
He takes care of his rider, no matter how inexperienced they may be.
$800.00

Tyee or Ty (in
Chinook Indian means Chief)

Look at me now!!!
Ty is a little part Arab stud colt that was weaned
far too soon. He was so bony his legs touched. He had
never been handled by humans and was frightened so badly, I feared he
would just fall over. After much coaxing I was able to lead him
to our trailer, It only took one look, by this poor, starving
little boy, to see other horses waiting for him and the sweet smell of
hay. He jumped right in. We are still working to get Ty's
muscle tone back to where it would be and, of course, put more weight
on him. He is a pretty little bay with a heart on his
forehead.
His best buddy is Talisa, who bosses him around, which he doesn't
seem to mind.
Update on Ty: Ty has amazed us
all. He was such an underweight, homely little duckling that has
grown into a beautiful swan. You would never imagine that poor
little slaughter baby to become such a beautiful yearling. We
are still trying to figure out what color he will shed out. Ty
may have some arabian in him, which would account for the mixture of
color. He if affectionate and love hugs. He is well
mannered and gets along well with the farrier and other horses.
Ty's fee includes the gelding fee. He will
be gelded before pickup.
Update
This very calm and laid back boy will make someone a fine horse.
Unflappable, and loving he will start under saddle soon. What bothers
Ty? Nothing that we have found yet. He, clearly, loves people,
and attention.
$600.00

Faith caught smooching Ty through the barn door.
