The Littlest Heart Breakers
 |
The miniature horses at Break Heart, some rescues and some not,
are for the enjoyment of children of all ages. Some are well known
and have been in parades, schools and on Magazine covers. Some are
here just to be loved and to learn that humans can do other than
cause them pain. Miniatures are not as intimidating as some of the
larger horses and since they look so cuddly, even children afraid of
animals are drawn to them. I would like to introduce you to the
miniature ambassadors of Break Heart Ranch Horse Rescue. No only
have they taught me valuable lessons, these intelligent, loving
beings are a joy to the heart.

Taw'nee

Taw'nee is a new addition to the miniatures. She is
probably a large Mini, or small pony, either way she is just learning
that halter training will not kill you, and is becoming quite friendly.
She is a pretty mare that just needs a little more
confidence. She should shed out to be a beautiful taffy dapple

Feather

Feather is a nice little gelding, very calm and cool.
He is a little shy, but loves to come up for a treat. Feather
has made new friends with Treasure and Fire Fly after Hopi and Butterscotch
went to a new home.

Zuni

Zuni has since moved on to a new home that she
shares with a miniature Donkey. Fire Fly, her little stud colt,
didn't seem to mind. He loves attention, and didn't even want to
share one minute of it with Mom.
Though he is the youngest of "the boys pen" he
thinks he top horse. He is always first to greet you for a rub,
or a treat, and becomes very impatient at feeding time. Guess he is
trying to live up to his name.

Dylans Grand Attitude
aka Attitudie

Dylans Grand Attidude "Attitudie" is our resident stallion. He not
only knows he is beautiful, he knows he is a star and demands star
treatment. Attitudie was trained by our 2 1/2 year old, adopted
Grandson, Dylan. Dylan was a natural, born horseman and animal lover. He was with Attitude from the day after he was born until he left
Nebraska in 2003. Attitudie learned to love and respect children from
Dylan's care. They were buddies who went everywhere together. Attitudie grieved the loss of his little boy, and I feared we would
lose him. However, the resilient little horses love of children
brought him around. Attitudie is a miniature with the heart of a horse
ten times his size, but very gentle with children who are fearful or
shy. His only vice is an addiction to carrots and he loses all dignity
when there is a carrot in sight, going so far as to drool and beg. Attitudie has marched in parades and recently made an appearance at
Head Start in Minden, where he was swarmed with children. A little 3
year old ran up and threw his arms around Attitudie, burying his head
in his warm soft neck. Attitudie stood quietly, so not to scare this
little one, and although the noise and strangeness might have made
another horse nervous, Attitudie reacted with dignity and patience.
Swan Maiden aka Star

Swan Maiden, or as Dylan named her just as he was learning to
talk, "Star", is the matriarch of our miniature herd. Star is 13
years old, with the patience of a Saint. In her younger days, she
won many a halter class. Due to being a little large for a
miniature, she made a perfect first horse for our Grandson Dylan. She had never been ridden, but seemed to understand he was just a
little boy and needed to be looked after. Even though Dylan was not
yet two he insisted on leading her everywhere and he learned how to
pick up her feet and brush her. Star was so patient with her hair
being brushed the wrong way or if he fell under her. Dylan would
ride her around and if he fell off, Star would stand patiently for
him to get back on. She would never trot unless "her boy" felt
secure on her back. She looked after her boy, as only a horse can.

Tudie
Tudie was born May 2006. She is the one and only daughter
of Dylans Grand Attitude or "Attudie". Tudie will probably turn into
an apricot dun as she has all the characteristics, and of course,
Tudie would never be just a regular color! She is full of
herself and thinks she runs the ranch. She will get attention
one way or another and has been know to sit in peoples' laps.
Hugs and fanny scratches are her undoing. She loves to play
and show off. The more people, the more she struts her stuff.
Tudie is building a fan club of her own, and she has people come out
just to see her! I will be working with Tudie over the next
year, so she can begin to go to schools and nursing homes. She
has, already, participated in the Minden Homecoming parade.
Right now Tudie looks like a rusty brillo pad with all her long
hair, but that doesn't stop her from showing off.

more Tudie . . .

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Stars

Daughter of Star and Blue Eyed Jack (now deceased) is a black and
white paint with china blue eyes. Twink loves fanny scratches and is
one of the first to come up to visit and get a carrot.
Moon Shadow

Moon Shadow is a shy, taffy colored paint mare. Moon Shadow
was purchased at an estate auction and has fit right into the
miniature herd. We are working on building her confidence,
although she will go out of her way for a carrot.
Nymawae

Nymawae was bought at a horse auction. She is a pretty
little girl, that didn't want anything to do with anything human.
She would strike out at anyone who came near. Nymawae is
coming around nicely and realizes humans can give good back rubs and
yummy carrots. She still has a way to go, but is willing to
learn.
Tunes

Tunes is a 8 year old Sicilian miniature donkey. Tunes came
to us very overweight and has had to be on a diet, which he hates.
He will tell everyone who will listen, that he "hates" his diet.
However, he is losing the weight that would have killed him and is
starting to look rather buff. Tunes love attention and shares
his quarters with, Chinook, our 32 year old blind stallion.
They, occasionally have differences, but remind me of the "Odd
Couple!" He got his name from his loud, musical bray that you
can hear a mile away.
Treasure

Treasure is
our new little boy. He was born in Kansas and is a Cremello
with baby blue eyes. He is not a rescue. After the loss of my
heart, Attitudie, I was distraught. Kat, my friend, ran across
a picture of this little man for sale. He stole my heart away.
Attitudie will never, ever be replaced, but there always room in our
hearts for another. Treasure is his own boy. He is
shedding out now, so should not have such bad hair days. He
pals around with Attitudie's daughter "Tudie" (who is just like her
daddy) and they will have a good time and learn how to he horses
with their friend Moon Shadow. Moon Shadow was delivered of a still
born filly in April, and will enjoy showing the youngsters all the
ins and outs of being a mini.
